Natural objects can always bring out the student’s creativity and work as one of the best loose-parts materials. As a teacher who teaches the three to four-year-old students, I bring and provide them in the classroom. Leaves, sticks, shells, pinecones, and stones are available for the students to use. We just need some effort to collect them, and most of the time, they are free to get, or no budget is needed.

This week, the EY1 students learned about the letter Ll. They named objects beginning with /l/, and one of them was leaf. They enjoyed touching and feeling leaves, naming the shapes, and even asking questions about them. Some of their questions were, “Ini daun apa?“, “What can we make with this leaf?”, “Can I cut the leaf?”, “Where did you get the leaves?”, and many more. Using their creative thinking skills, the students made various objects using leaves. As a teacher, I am always amazed by their creativity and interpretation of their work. Of course, they still need assistance from their teachers. Check out their works and stories below!
